All You Need to Know about Dog Allergies
Mammals, here we are talking about dogs, get the same type of allergies like humans get. Dog allergies can be further distinguished between:
1. Atopy
Most dogs suffer from atopy easily. This is an allergy caused by the external environment where pollens, dust particles, molds, feathers and human dander are common. When the dog suffers from such problem then it start to lick, scratch and chew different parts of its body including face, paws, genital areas, arms, and abdomen. Due to excessive scratching you will witness reddish marks on the body of your pet so it is better that you take it to the vet.
The vet will carefully examine your dog and run a test called Intradermal skin test and if atopy is diagnosed then he or she will give you medicines and a complete guide to give your dog nutritious diet. To avoid such allergy you should keep your dog clean, give it bath once every week and use a medicated shampoo.
2. Food allergy
A lot of scratching and licking can also be an indicative of food allergy. The skin of the dogs itches a lot that is why they feel irritation. If the dog food has expired then it can cause this allergy. Some ingredients in the dog food can also trigger allergy in the dog’s body maybe it is allergic to egg, fish, milk, wheat grains, etc. Besides itching, a dog with food allergy may also show symptoms such as vomiting, loss of appetite, discharge from eye or nose, diarrhea, excessive breathing, etc.
You should only give the food to your dog to which it has been eating for a long time. If you try to give it something else, like any other animals meat, rice, vegetables etc. then it will show the above mentioned symptoms that are really not healthy for your dog. If you are having difficulty in finding the causing ingredient then one by one give each type of food to your dog and see which one makes the difference. If the situation is getting worse then go to a vet who will give medications.
3. Bacteria allergy
Due to excessive hair on the skin of dogs they are prone to different types of bacteria. The bacteria can easily get inside the body and create problems in the dog’s body. Bacterial infection can cause your dog to become dull, suffer from high temperature, discharge from nose and eyes, patches on the body, etc. the changing of the climate can cause bacterial infection.
